Ceirtainly NOT ONLY for 3dsmax - I terminated the .exe in the task manager and now my perfectly legal MAYA license isn't accepted anymore ... /slaps forehead

adskscsrv.exe is License service program used by Autodesk, Nullsoft and other software companies to manage their products standalone activation. Ending this process may lead to loss of license information.

As said, part of the Autodesk Licence Utility Service. Can be terminated, but MUST be restarted before opening any relevant application (3DMax), otherwise the licence needs to be reactivated
