After most recent window update (12-15-06), when I rebooted got BSD before reboot. Then computer kept getting the blue screen. The identified file was CDR4_xp.sys. In safe mode I moved out of drivers directory to desktop and systems booted fine.

Part of a DVD-RAM driver for my Matshita UJ-840s drive on my Toshiba Satelite M45. I took it out of my drivers folder in safe mode and Windows booted fine but now my computer doesn't display my DVD drive, only my hard drives. Tried putting it back in the proper folder only to crash to a blue screen again and have the same thing happen. Tried finding the driver online, installed a different one and it did the same thing. Tried finding the driver on the drivers DVD on a different computer and installed that but didn't help. I am thinking about wiping my C Drive clean since nothing worked
Required to operate cd and DVD drives, conflict between Roxio and Nero. Do not install at same time or can result in error

This first showed up after installing an older version of Roxio (5). It caused a looping BSoD. One site recommended renaming the file in Safe Mode to cdr4_xp.sys.old, but I do not recommend this, as when it rebooted: No more BSoD but also no more CD-RW. The drive's drivers couldn't be reinstalled either. Still working on it...
It prevented rebooting after installing Ulead MF6. I had to restore to an earlier date.

Without this file and companion files, (often are removed when you uninstall preinstalled burn apps) some DVD burner drives(ie. Matshita {Panasonic} DVD-Ram UJ-850s) will know longer function properly within windows. If you have this problem, try a restore point from before removing Roxio or other apps. Or Use your computers restore CD to bring up to original state (Must have an external CD for this option).
the Roxio patch does fit version 6 or 7 of roxio. I started having this problem after playing rental DVDs that attempt to install DVD players as soon as they are detected. I canceled the install and played the movie, but I this is when all this started for me.
use the following file link to remove roxio emc 4 or 5 Works for me
it's harmless.
I resolved this issue by first booting into Safe Mode. Then renaming the file cdr4_xp.sys to cdr4_xpx.sys, and also creating a blank text file named cdr4_xp.sys. I then rebooted normally, removed Roxio via the Add/Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel, and rebooted. In the end, the system booted normally and my cdrom drive returned.
