What is DkIcon.exe?

The genuine DkIcon.exe file is a software component of Diskeeper Disk Defragmenter by Condusiv Technologies.
DkIcon.exe is an executable file that runs Diskeeper in the system tray as a background service. This is not an essential Windows process and can be disabled if known to create problems. This process is not needed to run Diskeeper, however, removing this process will disable automatic scheduling of disk defragmentation, though manual defragmentation is still possible. Diskeeper is a defragmentation program, originally designed for the VAX series of minicomputers. It was later developed for Microsoft Windows and served as a basis for the defragmentation program bundled with the Windows operating system. Diskeeper offers some very useful features such as the ability to prevent fragmentation before it happens by optimizing the process of data being written to disk. Condusiv Technologies is a an American software company that develops and sells utility programs designed to improve and maintain system functionality. OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) such as SanDisk, Samsung and LG often ship their products with Condusiv software pre-installed. Condusiv was formerly known as Diskeeper, named after its flagship product. It is based in Burbank, California, United States.

Diskeeper Professional Edition (defrag HD)
Not dangerous, defrags hard drives. Very handy.
It's the best defrag software- period
  Glen O. Jacobson
you can disable this, but it wont load upon windows startup and wont defrag in background. When you play games go ahead and disable it to increase resources and memory
It is the Diskeeper system tray icon. It uses system resources unnecessarily and if you are aware enough to be looking at it here, disable it and just defragment manually every week or so.
Basically serves as an ad for Diskeeper. I do not think it is necessary for Diskeeper's operation
  Charles Jenkins
can prevent proper shutdown of pc, until the process and dkservice are both stopped
  Craig Edwards
This is not needed for Diskeeper to function UNLESS you use the "Set it and forget" defragmentation scheduling; which is really the main reason you purchase Diskeeper. So disable this if you want to only defragment manually.

Best practices for resolving DkIcon issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with DkIcon. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.
