"STManager" is not required to run at start up. Dr. SpeedTouch is some sort of diagnostics software which sends out information to a server which then relays the information back to the program to test the network to see if the SpeedTouch ADSL modem connection is working properly. Not required if connected via Ethernet (and probably USB). Can cause a slow down in Win2K - see here

My recommendation would be to leave it alone but simply refuse it permission to communicate via your firewall. Its transmission of data masks my view of outgoing transmissions from other possible threats such as trojans. PC users need to be able to see those on the transmission meter in the toolbar tray.

Drst.exe has caused me endless problems with USB connectivity, plus it slowed my PC down massively and stopped it shutting down properly if at all. Now I have removed Dr Speedtouch, my PC is back to normal and I can synchronise my phone with Outlook with any problems. I recommend removal!!!

Some versions seem to disrupt USB devices, can conflict with flash memory card readers. Removing it from the startup will not effect the operation of the speedtouch modem.
