Came with a USB modem with Fax/Talk Software, My computer would have somethng accessing the HD and processor was between 15 and 20 percent usage all the time. I changed the name of the software and it stopped. But got an error when loading FAX/Talk (driver error). Haven
This is in fact one of 5 services required for full funtioning of the Windows Fax Software Faxtalk Fax Center. This file, along with FTfxview.exe, FTmsgscv.exe, FTclctrl.exe, and FTmsgr32.exe, are all Service Files required for Faxtalk. Some of these may be disabled, but to do so will disrupt certain functions, such as being able to print to Faxtalk, Recieve incoming faxes, etc. Unless absolutely nessesary, I would not turn off any of these functions. Instead, if you have reservations or if the services are bogging down your system, simply turn off those options, or Startup with Windows.

Best practices for resolving fapiexe issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with fapiexe. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

To help you analyze the fapiexe.exe process on your computer, the following programs have proven to be helpful: Security Task Manager displays all running Windows tasks, including embedded hidden processes, such as keyboard and browser monitoring or Autostart entries.
