I had this running as a service on my computer. One day I just started suffering from huge amounts of lag on things like Skype, Firefox, MSN, etc. I spent a few days trying out every trick I could think of for finding viruses. Upon stopping this service, my computer immediately ran smoothly. Whether or not it was a virus, it was hurting my computer.

My computer keeps slowing down, so I looked into it and found that this service was using ALL 6GB of my memory. Not a safe program in my eyes. I'm running Windows 8 on an HP Pavilion laptop.
Can use a lot of resource, reducing battery life and causing overheating problems with fan running at full power.

My 'puter with win7 started working erratically. TaskManager showed HPWMISVC was running. Had not seen this before! Research led me to believe I might remove it from startup.I did, and my 'puter performance improved considerably, with no problems noticeable so far!
