It's a multi-desktop tool. It has a nasty habit of freezing, stranding you on one desktop, if another application is unresponsive. [I've actually *detected* other malware due to it provoking this problem -- so in a sense HydraMD was helpful. Sort of.]

It isnt essential. But It is useful. It is part of the ATI package, suitable on reasonable and above graphics cards for switching between desktops. I use a ton of programs at work simultaneously so to me it is very useful. If you are happy with everything on one screen and dont need to switch between different desktops then remove it. If you have no idea what desktop switching is, then you dont need it either.

HydraMD is for multiple desktops, it is a feature, not a requirement of the ATI Radeon Family. You can close it with no ill effects.

not hard to get rid of, and you don't need to use spyware tools. just open up your HydraVision settings, and choose 'Unload MultiDesk'. unless you want to use multiple desktops, which some people can't live without and consider a feature of their ATI graphics card, not a nuisance. it does seem unlikely that ATI would have two processes running concurrently where it just switches the D and the M. it looks like a spyware trick, but DM is for Desktop Manager and MD is for MultiDesk.
