Generally very useful harmless program that lets you control the amount of fan noise versus CPU temperature of many models of Dell laptops. However, it has an incompatibility with Dell Inspiron 8600's (only) that can cause your laptop to start with a warning that you have allowed it to get too hot and that it shut down to protect itself. I believe that this only happens if you are attempting to keep your laptop so cool (like, maybe you use it on your lap!) that the fan runs all of the time. When performing a normal Windows shutdown, the Bios attempts to wait until the fan turns off.

The file belongs to the I8kfan program which is very useful to set your own fan preferences. Runs always on my laptop, not dangerous.
