Canon PIXMA communications driver service. Core service installed by the drivers for your Canon PIXMA printer and which handles the transmission of data between your PC and the printer.
I have the Canon MX 310 all-in-one, and everyone here has it, so it's relatively harmless

This program is not required. It was Added by Canon printer software. This software will collect information such as printer's id number, installation date and time, ink use information, number of sheets printers, etc. It will then send this information to Canon after a certain amount of time. This startup entry is installed as a Windows service.
It stalled some of my programs, and then gave me the message that it was used by Canon to monitor my printer for help with marketing decisions, the message gave me the option to unstall it. I later did so using Revo Uninstaller. This has caused no problems. I'd say it's basically benign, but who wants extra resources used for no useful purpose? Unless you want to help Canon in its marketing decisions?

Best practices for resolving ijplmsvc issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with ijplmsvc. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.
