There are many websites that claim this file is malware. That is only TRUE if: 1. You don't have a Promise SATA Controller installed in a PCI slot or on the motherboard, and 2. Your antivirus or ad/spyware detector programs recognize it as a threat. This file will not show up as a process since Windows only needs it to talk to the SATA controller to access any SATA hard drives you have in your system. If you didn't install any Promise SATA drivers, then you need to worry.

When I try to install Maxtor SATA/150 PCI card, the XP wizard says it needs ptipbm.dll, but I can't find it in system32 file.
