It's for the built-in audio on motherboards with Realtek Audio, it crashes some games after a whole however (Warcraft3).

It's the driver for the Realtek High Definition Audio card. It is indeed harmless, but commonly installed incorrectly, causing problems. I'm not sure if your sound will work without it.
