What is STacSV64.exe?

The genuine STacSV64.exe file is a software component of IDT High-Definition Audio by Tempo Semiconductor, Inc..
Tempo Semiconductor's HD-Audio (and AC-97) audio codec programs originated with Sigmatel, which was acquired by IDT in 2006, and are now sold and serviced by Tempo, a non-fabricating private company in Austin, TX, USA. The STacSV64 module runs on 64-bit machines as a Windows service. It is reportedly high in CPU usage but can be disabled through the Task Manager for a faster CPU without harming audio quality because it is not the primary executable but the equalizer software; it will return at reboot. The IDT Audio software can be uninstalled via the Control Panel.

Well, I installed it, and now my sound only worked throught the headphone jack. Tried to revert to a previous driver. Now that doesn't even work.
stacsv64.exe is on my laptop in four folders at C:\dell\drivers\R260553\WDM\ C:\Drivers\audio\R260553\WDM\ C:\Program Files\IDT\WDM\ C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\stwrt64.inf_amd64_neutral_0057cbec48a2d7cf\ Each is size 244,736 bytes. The date of installation is 26/8/2010 or 28/8/2010, about the time I bought the laptop. My interest in it is because it crashed twice in recent days. The crashes were reported in my weekly Soluto report but I wasn't aware they had occurred at the time
