Hard to tell if it works, since it hogs some much of the CPU that nothing else can be done.

It's a terrific memory hog. Not really worth the trouble. Doesn't disable easily.
It will use up so much of the CPU that the computer is non-functional.
Is a required core service for sophos anti virus, however I do have instances where the serivce is continuously using processor power.

Makes my computer run really slowly; i want to get rid of it, but i am afraid it's important
runs as part of Spohos anti-virus. When Windows Explorer is opened, will take from 50% to 99% of CPU power, rendering the PC useless.
Nuisance, massive memory & CPU hog, rendering PC unusable. Use AVG instead.
Sophos anti virus, best kept about, but takes up lots of resources from time to time.
Makes my computer crawl! Would prefer a less intrusive virus killer.

Yes we have sophos at work and yes it hangs the computers periodically. The question is should it use 100 % of cpu, and if so can we lower resources devoted to it in anyway.
SPOHO Antivirus, uninstalled and both process and file gone. CPU/Memory hog.
Absolute resource hog, running something that isnt showing on taskmanager right now and is slowing to the point what i type hsows up like a second later..switch to something else except norton -
antivirus but slows the computer
I checked with my antivirus software provider (Invisus)and was told that "sweepsrv.sys" is a program that is used in their software. There is an issue that sometimes causes the computer to run slowly (sometimes to the point the machine is useless). They have a correction for the the problem that completely solved the problem on my computer.

Best practices for resolving sweepsrv issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with sweepsrv. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

To help you analyze the sweepsrv.sys process on your computer, the following programs have proven to be helpful: Security Task Manager displays all running Windows tasks, including embedded hidden processes, such as keyboard and browser monitoring or Autostart entries. A unique security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware or a Trojan. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware detects and removes sleeping spyware, adware, Trojans, keyloggers, malware and trackers from your hard drive.
