What is updateui.exe?

The genuine updateui.exe file is a software component of Intel® Manageability Engine Firmware by Intel Corporation.
Computers with Intel® processors since 2011 use vPro technology including a separate built-in dedicated processor chip called the Manageability Engine (ME). The Firmware Recovery Agent is a background service that looks on Intel servers for critical updates of ME firmware. After presenting a user "opt-in" window it carefully validates and downloads them and applies them. It should reside in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files." It can be uninstalled via "Add/Remove" (or "Uninstall") from the Control Panel. Intel provides this process to OEMs in the driver stack for their Active Management Technology (AMT), but the Management Engine is now also used widely by other Intel technologies so a computer does not have to be enterprise-owned or have AMT to have an ME whose firmware needs updating. Intel Corporation, founded in 1968 by two former Fairchild engineers, located in Santa Clara, CA, USA, is the world's largest semiconductor manufacturer.
