It is the security suite offered by Charter Cable internet service. It didn't install correctly on another machine I have. The firewall bumped into something on my machine and it won't work correctly now. I use windows firewall and don't need the Charter firewall.

Verified: it is part of F-Secure security suite, located in the security suite folder. If it is located elsewhere, it may be a virus... In some PCs it may not work properly,especially if some other antivirus or firewall is running.

Ironically, F-Secure tattled on it's own fssm32.exe, asking me whether to allow or disallow. If it's located at "C:\Program Files\F-Secure\Anti-Virus", the file is genuine. Otherwise it's like an infection. Don't use the Charter branded version of F-Secure if you can avoid it. It's garbage. Buy the unbranded version directly from F-Secure, or use something else. Don't depend on Windows firewall. There's no anti-virus, and the firewall itself is riddled with holes.

Integral to F-secure firewall/antivirus. Charter Communications offers this security suite free to all its internet customers. This program does tend to use a lot of RAM and CPU at times thus hanging the computer occasionally

I got this when i installed the security program from Shaw Cable.

part of Embarq Online Sec Ste. takes alot of memory. Embarq rep said that it updates ste. I do it manually and use Win Firewall.

Part of F-Secure, which is also included in the Charter Security Suite. This file does use a lot of computer resources, but without this file the program will not function properly.

Vital F-Secure (virus protection software) component. Deletion means disabling the whole programme and leaving your computer unprotected against malware. It's basically as if you'd cut a hole into a condome before using it. Not exactly recommendable. The file needs a lot of RAM while it updates the virus definitions. It's just a few minutes, then you have your CPU almost to yourself again.
