it's part of the HP updater software. terminate the process and create a shortcut to update manually every so often.

This is the most annoying background file on my system. Will cause games like FSX and CIV4 to minimize as it flashes acroos screen. I delete it from processes before every game session but leave it for non-gaming.

runs every 15 minutes popping up a window and disrupting my game play. I tried changing the interval time like Boony said but the file keeps on changing back to "900000" ms. Not sure why..

As it closes down it locks the application window I am using. Changing to another window and back releases it. This is definitely associated with hptskmgr. Sometimes it will not allow a change to another window and the PC will freeze. This requires several minutes to recover or even needs a forced power off.
   

To stop this process, RUN MSCONFIG, click startup tab, uncheck all HP processes, click OK, and then restart. Upon restart, a box will appear in regard to System Configuration Utility, Check the box and click ok. The printer will run fine and no more interruptions or lost focus.

This file is part of the HP printer driver set (HPOSM.exe also loads) but apparently isn't essential to be running all the time. These key off HPCMPMGR.exe which is found in MSCONFIG and could be disabled there.

HP recomends removing it from startup. Another site said it caused problems with your printer if not loaded but the person didn't specifiy exactly what the problems were so I am assuming nothing bad will happen.

Run multipal times an hour and program flashes across my taskbar. Didn't do this until a few weeks ago. VERY annoying.

It runs about every 15-20 mins and spawns a window on the taskbar which is then quickly destroys. It crashes fullscreen applications like games, which is a HUGE annoyance.

It comes up while shutting down the computer. I have no clue of y it appears when shutting down and what exactly it is...but its something to do with the Hewlit Packard. Guess its the task manager of the printer/ scanner on the comp.

I've tried delaying the 'refresh' from 15 minutes to 1 day by amending the interval in the configuration file hpcmconf.xml. Interval is in milliseconds

using ProcLog found this to be the program that steals focus and flashes on taskbar (as said before) HP really sucks for making this kind of junk.

hptskmgr.exe IS part of the HP printer software it manages the printer spool and other stuff if you have an All in one, however as stated by Jynx D5 is grabs focus and can cause some older Full screen apps to crash. for resulation with the problem contact HP Support for your Model

I think this is related some how to hewlit packard. On my computer it runs every 15 mins and the program flashes across my taskbar.

Runs once every exactly 15 minutes. Remains active for a little over 20 seconds. Just before exiting, it creates an off-screen window and detroys it immediatly. The windows steals focus causing fullscreen applications (video, games, ...) to minimize or even crash.
