It's a CPU hog, but you're using it for a reason... if you want your drive defragged, you need to not use other programs while it runs. It being a CPU hog means less chance of that, therefore win-win!

I do not own and have never installed Norton System Works 2003 onto my PC, i have this file sitting in my computer and while it runs, i get adware popups like crazy, when i close this process, the popups go away. Beware as Malware could try to use this name for its dirty deeds !

Here's the rundown for the less technically inclined - Norton Speed Disk will eat CPU and make your system slow down WHEN it's running, but when it finishes the defrag, your system will run considerably faster than if you hadn't run it. If it's annoying you, here's the solution - in the Norton Speed Disk interface, click View Global Options... Set Priority slider to Low, set Memory slider to Low, click Apply, then click OK. It will take more time to defrag this way, but it will be considerably less annoying. Running on Win 2K, and it's the best defrag utility I know.

NOPDB.exe To Britt - 12 down from top: If you "End Process", you DON'T need to reboot to run Speedisk (Norton 2007). All you have to do is just start Speedisk and it will re-enter NOPDB.exe in processes, but unless started (the application), it doesn't take up as much CPU as it did without Speedisk NOT running. Just checked it. Defrag is scheduled but not open or minimized. I noticd it when running Norton Antivirus 2007, AFTER thescan was complete and the app closed, it was taking my CPU to 90% - I have 3 Ghx, 1 GB RAM. No, Norton hasn't explored this carefully enough, IMO.

Its a tool for defragging your hard drive of course its gonna make the hard drive churn and slow your computer down. The purpose of it is to defrag the hard drive so your computer can access data faster AFTER its done running. Set the freaking thing to manual and run it manually before you go to the crapper. When ya get back it will be done

Google confirms this is a process of Norton Utilities Speed Disk (a disk defragment program) Leave it alone. Speed disk will operate at 20% frag level by default or at any other frag level you set within Utilities Scheduling

A norton utility, i thought so, just did a quick google check because its causing my computer to make "reading disc whirring" noises, although it does not degrade performance, it use 4% of my AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+

Not essential. Check AdministrativeTools/Services for "Speed Disk service" set Properties/Startup type = Disabled. You can always run it manually. If theres no service Spedd disk then probably its a malware.
