It is a driver for the audio card. If you delete it, you will not get any sound. I tried and that is what happened. I reloaded the sound files as new, and had the same problem. It is coming up as an error when trying to run WINDVD7 Platinum on my laptop. Neither Intervideo nor myself have been able to resolve the problem.

It has always given me problems, in that it would just stop working with no warning. I was always able to get it going again by using the "update driver" function in Windows 98Se's System Device manager. I just upgraded it to a slightly newer version which seems to be working well, Without it, my SoundMAX audio card simply doesn't work..

If you are having trouble with m2n-sli sound drivers, go to bios and enable HD audio. I thought the drivers were bad, saying smwdm.sys was missing.

I noticed cmdagent.exe, or COMODO Internet Security's Firewall helper program accessing the file. It did cause a STOP error with the parameters "STOP 0x00000001 (0x0000000C, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF6D32424) I have had this file on my computer for years, and this is the first time i got a STOP error from it.

it's a driver for soundmax audio card or chip on board. if an error appears (blue screen) you only have to uninstall the drivers for soundmax in devices. then start up windows again and let windows search the drivers and install them automatically. then there is no problem anymore with smwdm.sys.
