SSBkgdUpdate.Exe is installed in subdirectory of 'C:\Program Files\Common Files' along with the files that were installed with my Xerox Documate scanner. The software was written by Nuance Communications Inc. and is very likely critical to the document-scanning process.

It can't be only for Canon printers because I've never had one. I have a Canon Dig. camera, but my printer is Brother. I would guess it's part of Nuance's paperport software.

SSBkgdUpdate is located in my computer at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Scansoft Shared\SSBkgdUpdate. Note: "Program Files (x86)", not "Program Files". My computer has both "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)." Maybe obvious to expert users.

It is part of software called PaperPort - loaded automatically with some printers. It is simply badly written so clashes with Vista and Win 7. It isn't needed, so remove it from Add/Remove Programmes (or Programmes and Features)

I have a Canon printer and a Canon camera but have not installed the SSBgd update yet. I 'll give it a try.

Das Programm sucht - wie der Name schon sagt - im Hintergrund nach Updates für Scan Soft Produkte, wie z.B. OmniPage (Scan Soft Background Update). Wer das automatische Update nicht will, gibt im Windows Start-Menu unter Ausführen oder in Windows 7 unter Programme/Dateien durchsuchen "msconfig" ein und bestätigt das mit Return. Unter dem Reiter "Systemstart" im Systemkonfiguration-Fenster muss dann noch der Haken vor "SSBkgUpdate Application" entfernt werden. Jetzt wird das Programm beim Hochfahren nicht mehr gestartet.

SSBkgdupdate.exe I’ve got the above “Shield with Yellow & Blue “virus” / dodgy programme that comes up on start up every time I switch on. I have tried to get rid of it and failed – Ive had it for two months. I looked it up – SSBkgdupdate.exe - on the net. It seems that it is a common problem with several websites saying it is bad (they would say that wouldn’t they!) & “how to get rid of SSBkgdupdate.exe”, but I couldn’t get them to work or they themselves looked suspect. THE SOLUTION FOR ME: I’ve managed to get rid of SSBkgdupdate.exe at last. After going to C drive I managed to find “common files” and went into that and amazingly I found sitting there all innocently was “SSBkgdupdate”. Its properties showed Type File folder Origin Scansoft shared Size 152 mb Created 27 Sept 12 17.51 So I just pressed delete and it has gone and no longer appears on my start up screen!!!
