I agree with the other comments: this is Samsung's printer status monitor and it's required to use the printer.

It stops my laptop shutting down or restarting - annoying

I KNOW it is the Smart Panel Printer Manager for Samsung printers. I didn't find an accurate solution to this question, so I had to figure it out myself. Go to Add Remove programs and select your Samsung printer, it will give you the option to uninstall seperate components. Smart Panel is the one to check in this case. It will remove only the items you check. You can uninstall the Smart Panel, without uninstalling the printer drivers for your Samsung printer.

Ssmmgr monitors ink levels and status of Samsung printers. It is neither essential nor dangerous. It does provide some information about the printer, so disabling it is up to user discretion.

I have this installed in 2 locations, C:\windows\samsung\panelmgr, and also C:\programfiles\samsung\samsungCLP-300series\instal\applicationSPANEL\Panelmgr. Why would it be in 2 places. Maybe this is why the computer won;t shut down??
