Same experience as Ron had, plus that it made my boot excruciatingly slow and slows down the processor after that. Norton Antivirus 2002 never gave any trouble but this is a pest. I am going to throw away my 45 euro Norton rubbish and get myself a McAfee.

Definitely a Symantec file. It is a NAV driver, don't erase it.

Note: Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection!

Hi, Everytime I start my pc, it keeps telling me theres new hardware detected and if I would like to install the new hardware symlcbrd. There is no Symantic (Norton AV) on this pc but there was up until last week. It might be a left over component but I don't understand the new hardware message so now I am going to give the pc a good clean-up. If it is still there giving the same message after I have cleaned I remove it! There are two more messages about hardware, about a printer thats not there and a file called tmfilter which I think has to do with Trend Micro AV that is running now(I hope)

Following up on my previous posting. What I did stopped the problem and removed the cursed thing. At this point I truelu think Norton AntiVirus is a virus unto itself. My advice. Get AVG.

It caused a found new hardware and Windows install new hardware to appear on reboot. It appeared after I downloaded Symantec /Norton antivirus. Then found that It used 10 to 15 % of my processor. When I uninstalled the Symantec product, I had to spend a couple of hours locating all the remaining files and manually remove them. Still coulden't get the pest out. Finally went to My Computer/Properties/Device Manager and found it highlighted in yellow and attached to MCSTRM, a RealPlayer scheduler or some such. I right clicked it and deleted it and then right clicked MSTRM and disabled that.
