What is brave.exe?

brave.exe is an executable file associated with the Brave Browser, developed by Brave Software. This file is typically located in the directory C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application. The ".exe" extension signifies that it's an executable file, which means it's capable of being run or executed as a program in the computer.

The Brave Browser is a free and open-source web browser that focuses on providing better privacy and security for its users. It blocks ads and website trackers, and provides a way for users to send cryptocurrency contributions in the form of Basic Attention Tokens to websites and content creators.

brave.exe is needed to run the Brave Browser on your computer. Without this executable file, the browser won't function. It's the core file that launches and runs the browser.

Normally, you should not need to remove brave.exe if you are using the Brave Browser. If you notice suspicious activity such as high CPU usage, frequent crashes, or if your security software flags it as a threat, it could be a sign of malware disguising itself as the brave.exe file. In such cases, you should run a thorough system scan and remove the file if it's indeed malicious. If you no longer wish to use the Brave Browser, you can uninstall it, which will remove the brave.exe file.

I was using Brave browser. The problem was that the system was crawling and the hard drive was in heart attack mode. STM showed that about 8 "new" browsers were going, some scattered down the list. Still don't know why.

It's a well-known browser

Recently attempted to download this in my corporate environment, noticed shortly after it had made attempts to contact binance.cm without even being installed on the device, simply after the download. Akamai identified it before it could cause any damage. Soon to be deleting Brave, they appear to have sold themselves out.

looking at Brave in security task manager, it has loaded 13 versions of itself. All updated and using different memory ammounts. I have no Idea what it is really doing. I just ain't going to use so often.

Based on the Chromium project and developed by a former Mozilla/Firefox developer. Each "brave.exe" you see in task manager is thread for the main process. Each instance is a single tab session, an add-on, or a core process (GPU process, for example). Each thread uses it's own memory space, different from browsers of the XP/Vista/Early Windows 7 era. Killing one could crash the program, or just kill a tab, add-on or a core function. Simply close the program. If one or more remain open, open the browser and check your settings for "keep processes open in background after closing browser" or similar. Brave is neither essential to the OS, nor is it dangerous, but is essential for the Browser to work and create threads with isolated memory spaces. Most importantly, browse responsibly and you won't have any issues with your OS.
