The genuine checksur.exe file is a software component of Microsoft Windows Operating System by Microsoft Corporation. "CheckSUR.exe" was a Microsoft utility for Windows OS older than 8. It stood for "Check System Update Readiness." It had to be downloaded from Microsoft by their engineers in a package including a payload of corruption-repair and/or update files, creating the "C:\Windows\checksur" subfolder with the utility and the package contents. In July 2015, Microsoft created an "Updated CheckSUR" download for Windows 7/2008 R2, which gave those users that capability also.
