dfssvc.exe is the Distributed File System service. It could be only found on Microsoft Windows Server editions, this process is crucial for the DFS service. DFS Service manages logical volumes distributed across many servers on a local or wide area network. Logical volumes enable the network manager in a large organisation to pool similar sets of data into single access points (one drive letter in Windows, ie. H: ) for the convenience of the users of that data.

I'm running Windows XP. Something was slowing the system down and it seemed to be SDFSSvc.exe taking well above 95% of the cpu capacity and quite a bit of memory. Absolutely awful and unacceptable!

dfssvc.exe is "DFS namespace" service that enbles DFS on servers. It should NOT be disabled and cannot be uninstalled, unless you uninstall dfs completely.
