What is MusNotification.exe?

The genuine MusNotification.exe file is a software component of Microsoft Windows Operating System by .
"MusNotification.exe" and "musnotificationux.exe" are Microsoft processes, created for Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 (and later), executed by a scheduled task in the "Microsoft\Windows\UpdateOrchestrator" path that triggers when updates are available, which may occur at logon. They reside in "C:\Windows\System32". The "musnotificationux.exe" process grays out the entire desktop and inhibits changing focus. Then "musnotification.exe" presents a window saying, "Updates are available. Required updates need to be downloaded," with only one button, "Get updates." In progressive Windows 10 releases Microsoft may be preventing frequently recommended ways of escaping this window without clicking "Get updates", (once possible by just clicking outside the button), or of disabling the notification by taking ownership of both processes and denying access to "Everyone" so they cannot execute. This may result in vital security or bug fix updates not being downloaded and applied in a timely manner.

The MusNotification.exe file's and service's seem to be located in the system32 folder within the Windows folder, inside Windows 10.

ZoneAlarm stopped it from gaining access to some resources at the same time that Symantec found Trojan.Sakural. Probably a masquerade.

A task was generated in the Windows Task Scheduler on my computer that woke up my computer at midnight to run this. As far as I can tell, it did nothing, but the computer stayed woken up and ran all night doing nothing until I found it that way in the morning. WTF?

It is the Windows 10 "Get Update" popup.

It is the Windows 10 "Get Updates" Pop-UP. To stop the nag screen "Get Updates" pop-up by disabling access to the executable that launches the notify system – MusNotification.exe.

Located in C:\Windows\System32\MusNotification.exe, and appears to be harmless. (Started by Windows Task Scheduler: starts every day)

Came looking for info when Parallels reported MusNotificationUX.exe (a subprocess from MusNotification.exe) wanted access to my hosting Mac's Documents folder, with no explanation available as just what it would be doing that required access to the folder. I accept that it is probably not malware, but even so, come on Microsoft, if you're going to have stuff ask for special permissions then describe why it needs that permission. Other searching indicates it is not providing an essential feature anyway, just apparently trying to deliver a full-screen notification about an update, and can be disabled. Denied access.

It is missing from the PC when using Autoruns.exe to identify scheduled applications, but the stale registry entries can still be used to substitute a bogus version of the file, then run it.

Fake updates pushed to compromise system. Computer and whole network was hit with malware and windows auto-update grabbed these updates as valid and injected them. Is a normal process but dont trust if you have malware already.
