What is TaniumClient.exe?

TaniumClient.exe is an executable file that is part of the Tanium Client software developed by Tanium. This file is typically located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Tanium\Tanium Client directory.

Tanium Client is a powerful endpoint security and systems management software. It provides real-time visibility and control over your network, allowing you to quickly identify and resolve issues, enforce compliance, and secure your endpoints. It's particularly useful in large-scale enterprise environments where managing and securing a vast number of devices can be challenging.

TaniumClient.exe is needed for the Tanium Client software to function properly. It's responsible for various operations such as communicating with the Tanium server, executing tasks, and reporting the status of the client machine. Without this executable, the Tanium Client software wouldn't be able to perform its intended functions.

You should not remove TaniumClient.exe if you're using the Tanium Client software, as it's a crucial component of the software. If you're not using the software, or if the file is causing issues (like high CPU usage or system crashes), you might consider uninstalling the software. If you suspect the file to be a virus or malware (due to its location or behavior), you should run a malware scan and remove it if necessary. Always remember to verify the legitimacy of the file before taking any action.

Causes a lot of issues, takes 100% of hard disk resources and this impacts on slow performance and at the end, HD corrupts or brokes

Frequently maxing my cpu and making system unusable for several minutes

Great tool if your idea of security is to launch a denial of service attack on your own users. Robs client machine of resources, rendering it nonresponsive and wasting users' time rebooting or waiting 10 minutes to hours for the machine to come back.

I've installed the TaniumClient program on around 9,000 Windows and Linux servers in the cloud. It is a powerful and necessary tool for reporting on the security of your estate and patching the endpoints. It is benign, as is a an automobile. It is driven by the Tanium Server which should be accessible only duly qualified and trusted individuals. Disclaimer: I have no affiliation whatsoever with Tanium. I'm just a customer.

Caused significant Disk I/O to the point of the PC being useless. Could not remove it through the installer but was able to rename the folder. Had to keep killing the processes to get the rename to work.

This software is taking up 100% disk usage, and this is severely impacting performance on my end.

Slows down computer by using system resources.

Maxing out CPU and Disk Usage, making PC unusable once a day.

Takes up all your system resources.

we use it for scanning installed software and files on computers in the enterprise environment to maintain patching/version control, and network security. it can be used many ways from scanning down a particular version of software, or a software name sorted into versions. I mainly use it to provide me a list of computers who have not received recent updates for particular softwares so i can make sure that any security vulnerabilities are mitigated. it is true, however, that while it's scanning, it uses excessive amounts of computer resources regarding CPU and harddrive use. Upper management believes that the benefits outweigh the resource requirements, so it's a required piece of software in our operating environment

Hogs computer resources even on a fast SSD and makes it difficult to work

I'd have to agree with other users here. I'm an end user in a large enterprise corp environment, and Tanium behaves like spyware, because of its P2P architecture. It essentially launces a DoS attack on local systems because it uses each local asset as a server for another in the same network, instead of using a dedicated server to do the same work. It may appear to save a company money in the short term, but the extra power used to run these management tasks, and the loss of productivity may increase the cost of ownership over time.

Uses 100% of hard disk resources most of the day on most work days. Takes an otherwise efficiently powered PC and turns it into a useless hunk of metal and plastic.

Tanium is 32 bit junkware that causes instability and chews though battery.
  DougG
Used by my company, may have a valid use, but consumes ~30% of my CPU time a good bit of the time, which I don't have to spare when I'm working. I kill all the instances 3 times, and it doesn't start back up until I reboot. I will keep killing it until they no longer allow me to. I still get all my SW updates. I bet Tristan has a faster PC than 95% of the people at his company.

My computer is managed or 'touched'. currently running 11 each TaniumCX, and 4 each TaniumClient and 1 TaniunDetectEngine. I only searched this because I waited 2hrs for the abilith to use google. Our IT door sign says 'if you can do your job, we are not doing ours.

consumed 100% of cpu for several minutes after reboot

Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the 6resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or executing the 7DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

To get your computer running as fast as it did on day one, you can 8reset your PC. Your personal files will remain intact, but any programs you installed will need to be reinstalled.
