WdFilter.sys has very little to do with malware or scanning for any threats or viruses you may have. It's true purpose is to filter user and other input to stop Windows Defender settings being changed. So, trying to adjust registry keys projected by this driver will be denied. Altering files and security settings of protected files will also be denied. That's what this driver does; it protects Windows Defender from threats and users/Admins trying to modify defender settings.
