What is GrooveMonitor.exe?

The genuine GrooveMonitor.exe file is a software component of Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft OneDrive by .
"GrooveMonitor.exe" is a Microsoft utility introduced as part of "Groove", an application bundled with Office 2007, that enabled users working in diverse enterprises and nonprofits, and often offline, especially emergency relief field workers, to invite one another to share workspaces. Groove relay servers tracked users' status, synchronizing any work a user had done offline as soon as the user reappeared with all others sharing that workspace, (or as soon as they came online again). Data was stored in the user's local workspace, not on the server. Although Microsoft renamed the application and reassigned the "Groove" name to its digital music download service, SharePoint and OneDrive still use "GrooveMonitor.exe" and other similarly named components. The GrooveMonitor utility's function was to observe the application's behavior and send error reports to Microsoft. It resides in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\GrooveMonitor.exe" and can only be uninstalled by removing all of Microsoft Groove 2007 or Microsoft Office.

This program is not dangerous. Its built and use in Microsoft Office Suites 2007-2010 just for sync files to share with friends and Co-Workers. If you don't trust it starting up at boot time You can use two methods to turn it off 1.Click on the start button in windows 7 Type into the search box msconfig and on startup Tab then uncheck it then restart windows 2. The best way to me is Go Download this small utility program called AutoRuns Run it ....Then click on Logon tab Uncheck GrooveMonitor.....And thats it

Whilst GrooveMonitor.exe is part of Office 2007, there is malware (self-extracting RAR archive) with the same name, please see link.

Normally a harmless part of the Microsoft Office suite, but a file of this name is also used as a dropper for a malicious virus that wipes all data from your hard disk
