We had an sagent error message which asked if we wanted to keep blocking sagent with windows firewall. We said yes and now we can't print to our Epson Stylus Photo R300

It is the module installed, on windows XP, when you own an Epson Printer & have it networked on your LAN. It doesn't contain any spyware, nor does it send any information to Epson about your printing habits! I am a programmer, who has investigated the processes attached to the file.

Blocking SAgent4 does not prevent printing on a Epson Stylus C66. Client is Windows XP Pro x64. Printer attached to Windows XP Pro.

Yep, EPSON bloatware for network printing. What's wrong with Windows network printing? Unfortunately seems required.

reports your printing statistics to Epson
Was taking 50% of my CPU time with the D88 printer off!
Have an Epson printer attached to a XP machine using USB, and have printer sharing turned on. I use another XP machine on the network that prints via the first computer. I have SAgent4.exe blocked using McAfee firewall, and the printer works fine from either machine.
Installs with Epson C88 drivers. Crashes in Terminal Services. Doesn't appear to be necessary for printer to work in TS

Best practices for resolving SAgent4 issues

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with SAgent4. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using cleanmgr and sfc /scannow, uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using msconfig) and enabling Windows' Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points.

Should you experience an actual problem, try to recall the last thing you did, or the last thing you installed before the problem appeared for the first time. Use the resmon command to identify the processes that are causing your problem. Even for serious problems, rather than reinstalling Windows, you are better off repairing of your installation or, for Windows 8 and later versions, executing the DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth command. This allows you to repair the operating system without losing data.

To help you analyze the SAgent4.exe process on your computer, the following programs have proven to be helpful: Security Task Manager displays all running Windows tasks, including embedded hidden processes, such as keyboard and browser monitoring or Autostart entries. A unique security risk rating indicates the likelihood of the process being potential spyware, malware or a Trojan. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware detects and removes sleeping spyware, adware, Trojans, keyloggers, malware and trackers from your hard drive.
