part of microsoft update, constantly runs, eats up resorces. should run less if you use a stable release, i use developer channel pre-release of windows 10, so it updates everyday, damn near all the time

it is a Modern Setup host for windows 8, 8.1 and 10. it is mainly used for installing or preparing an update for another build of windows. this is intentional for windows 10.

I know that it can hog all your Disk I/O. I have discovered that if a Windows update hangs or gets corrupted that this process can run wild eating up resources. I had to kill this process to get the update to get back on track.

SetupHost.exe is the file run under the process called "Modern Setup Host" in Windows 10. It typically installs or configures a Windows update for installation in the background, and is typically seen to appear right after the background process of "Windows Update" has used a lot of disk and network (i.e. it has just downloaded a new update). Due to Windows' obvious lack of sense of self, they have put in Windows Update and Setup Host in HIGH process priority, and they will often use all the disk and network (Setup Host will use disk, and Windows Update will use both Disk and Network) they can get their hands on. If you're doing something important, you can easily "End Process" this exe from the Task Manager, but do be warned, as Windows Update will sometimes re-download the update from scratch if there's a problem in Setup Host completing the assigned task, wasting a lot of time.

It seems to be the file used to install windows updates, look at your update settings and if there is an update installing than it installs with that process.

While some intrinsic problem is solved, and also afterwards, a better response is achieved, the user suffering from a slow computer, by installing the free program PRIOCLICK on Google Sites. This application does not clean or correct anything, it only automatically prioritizes the processes that interest us, with process and disk priorities when they compete for resources. For games or if default does not seem enough, try in the configuration value LONGX2 as cpu time slice. With prioclick you can configure for that program for example below fixed process priority and low or normal fixed disk priority, or whatever you want.
